Venture Capital Firms:

This category encompasses venture capital firms that are headquartered in Israel. The list includes prominent Israeli VCs like Pitango Venture Capital and Jerusalem Venture Partners, among many others.

Accelerator/Incubators:

This category includes Israeli incubators and accelerators such as Tel-Aviv-based The Junction.

Global VC firms with an Israeli office:

These are VC firms that have a global presence, are heavily investing in Israel, and have a satellite office in Israel. This group includes prominent firms like Battery VenturesBessemer Venture Partners, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The group also includes global VCs that have launched dedicated funds that focus on Israeli startups like Sequoia Capital Israel.

Angel investment groups:

This category counts angel groups that are headquartered in Israel and includes Tel-Aviv-based 2b Angels, among others.

Sectors:

We selected several industries that have seen a large amount of deal activity in Israel.

  • Cybersecurity – this was our largest sector in the periodic table and includes software security startup Checkmarx, which raised an $85M growth equity round led by Insight Venture Partners in June 2015.
  • Business intelligence, analytics, performance management – this category includes website analytics startup Clicktale, which raised a $35M Series C led by KKR in January 2015.
  • Video and photo tech – includes video content curator SocialStudios which raised a $3.1M Seed round in August 2014, and video streaming startup Glide Talk which raised a $20M Series B in December 2014.
  • Travel and navigation – this part of the table includes commuter information app Moovit which has raised a total of $81.5M to date, and taxi-hailing app Gett, which has raised a total of $213M to date making them one of the most well-funded startups in Israel.
  • Marketing and Ad tech – companies in this category include well-known digital marketing software startup Kenshoo, which raised a $20M Series F at a $500M valuation in April 2014.
  • Semiconductors and chips – includes semiconductor developer Altair Semiconductor, which has raised a total of $124M to date from various investors including Bessemer Venture Partners and BRM Group.
  • Commerce and marketplaces – companies in this category include Fiverr, which raised a $60M Series D in November 2015 from Bessemer Venture Partners and Accel Partners among others.
